TRIBOLI PLANT

Trivoli or Trioli or Pentasporo or Pentaxylo (Tribulus terrestris) is a weed of the Zygophyllaceae family, which thrives in tropical and temperate countries. In our country it is particularly widespread and anyone who had the misfortune to step on it the Greek expression "tribolitse" or "triolitse" was tailor made for the occasion. With other names around the world it is found as "devil's thorn", "devil's grass", "goat's head" etc. The unique arrangement of its three thorns (three in number, hence the name) on its fruit, was great inspiration that led to the creation of a clever weapon of war to "take on" the enemy in battle, with one thorn on the wrist always projecting vertically to the surface of the earth, penetrating directly and to the maximum depth into the interstices and tearing the flesh with the sides thorns. Therefore, an iron weapon was prepared very early on that imitated the triboli (the "tetrahedron" or "triboli" according to our ancients) and being made of iron it could be quite destructive for the enemy's cavalry. According to historical reports, this weapon was used by Darius to hinder the advance of M. Alexander to Gaugamela. The name five-seeded came from the number of seeds in its fruit.

Trivole is a medicinal plant, particularly known for its aphrodisiac properties (often called "nature's Viagra") – thanks to the steroidal saponins it contains, which seem to affect both sexes without causing the side effects of their counterparts. artificial preparations such as an increase in blood pressure. In men, it increases testosterone production and, by extension, erectile capacity, sperm production and mobility. It is an ideal herb for conditions of reduced sexual ability (infertility), premature ejaculation, erectile dysfunction, prostate dysfunction. In women, tribole seems to especially relieve premenopausal and menopausal symptoms such as headaches, insomnia, mood swings, abdominal pain. For this reason, tribole is also indicated for the treatment of psychosomatic conditions such as dizziness and vertigo, hypersensitivity and mood disorders (even depression), over-intensity and insomnia. Thanks to its steroidal nature this herb is widely taken by strength athletes (as a natural anabolic) to build and increase muscle mass. Other indications concern asthma, coughs, colds, but also ophthalmological diseases such as conjunctivitis, while the plant is attributed to laxative and detoxifying, astringent, anticholesterolemic, antihypertensive, tonic properties. Externally, it appears to soothe dermatological conditions such as psoriasis and herpes.

Trivoli is consumed as a decoction (1 cup of tea in a cup of water) which is simmered for 5-10 minutes, until it reaches half the volume.
